A community give-back initiative from Sixth City AI

Practical AI skills for whatever comes next.

Free, live, instructor-led online learning sessions for adults in the Charlie Health alumni community. No technical background or previous AI experience is needed.

Why we’re offering this

For some people, a mental health journey also means time away from work. That may include inpatient treatment, intensive outpatient care, a disrupted career, job loss, or an extended job search. For others, work may not have changed at all. There is no single experience that defines this community.

What we do know is that the workplace keeps changing while people are busy living their lives. AI is becoming part of everyday business tasks, and it can be difficult to know where to begin or which claims about it to believe.

At Sixth City AI, we help people and organizations learn to use AI in useful, responsible ways. We have also personally benefited from Charlie Health’s services. We wanted to give something back to the alumni community, and sharing what we know about AI felt like a practical place to start.

This is not about pushing anyone into the workforce or suggesting that technology will solve every challenge. It is an opportunity to learn a skill, explore some possibilities, and make your own decisions about what comes next.

What you can learn

The sessions build on one another and will be scheduled at set times, mostly in the evening Eastern Time. The current series will repeat from the first class for each new cohort. Topics are adapted from Sixth City AI’s business and team-adoption training for people who are just getting started.

  • AI basics without the jargon. Learn what tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini can and cannot do, and how to begin using them.
  • Using AI for everyday work. Practice drafting emails, organizing ideas, summarizing information, planning tasks, and checking AI-generated answers.
  • Exploring a return to work. Use AI to research jobs, refresh a résumé, prepare for interviews, and think through how your existing skills may transfer to new roles.
  • Exploring a business idea. Learn how AI can help research a market, evaluate ideas, sketch a business plan, draft marketing materials, and organize the first steps of a small business.
  • Using AI safely and responsibly. Learn what personal information to keep private, why AI makes mistakes, and when human judgment and qualified professional advice matter.

Specific topics and schedules will be announced as sessions are organized.

What to expect

These beginner-friendly online learning sessions are led by an instructor and include practical demonstrations, examples, and opportunities to ask questions. We want the experience to feel welcoming and useful, not overwhelming.

Sessions offered through this initiative are free of charge. Availability will be limited by the number of sessions and spaces available. We’ll aim to use accessible AI tools and explain any account or software requirements ahead of time.

You are asked not to discuss your diagnosis, treatment, or personal mental health history in class. Participation is voluntary, and you can choose how much you wish to contribute to group exercises.

You don’t have to be looking for work or preparing to start a business to participate. Curiosity is enough.
